Mesola is an Emilian town, in the province of Ferrara, has 6,600 inhabitants. Today we will talk about its wonderful wood, a riot of unspoiled nature and an ideal habitat for countless animal species. The wood, basically it is an holm oak grove, extends over 800 hectares, only a part of which can be visited. Extraordinary ecosystem, offers a multiple and varied fauna. A place of honor deserve the lords of the night: owl, owl, barn owl, scops owl. There are various types of mushrooms, edible and not. Many mammals are present, ranging from foxes to badgers to voles and porcupines; there are also fallow deer, deer, and skunks. The delicate and varied aquatic ecosystem it presents is also interesting: toads, marsh turtles, collared snakes. A special mention deserves the beautiful kingfisher. The Mesola wood represents a rare example of a residual plain wood, historical memory of the ancient forests that were found in ancient times along the Adriatic belt.
