San Lorenzo Dorsino: the union of ancient Comini and hamlets for an evocative landscape in the Dolomites

Where: san-lorenzo-dorsino
(San Lorenzo Dorsino)
Genre: nature   wine and food   folklore

San Lorenzo Dorsino is a municipality born in 2015 from the union of the municipalities of Dorsino and San Lorenzo in Banale. It is located in the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park and is part of the Giudicarie Esternal territory. This name indicates a valley that goes from Lake Garda to the Brenta Dolomites. We are therefore in the heart of the Dolomites, in a breathtaking natural landscape, in the quiet of mountain nature. The scattered houses of antiquity and small hamlets, have then joined together over the years to form the urban centers we know today. The presence of seven hamlets gave rise to the birth of seven churches and seven noble villas, today buildings of great charm. The Church of San Lorenzo is the main one, but of great historical and artistic importance are the churches of Sant'Antonio Abate, the oldest in the village, and the Church of San Rocco. The village offers a suggestive walk between the mountains and the narrow streets perched on it, dotted here and there by the stone fountains used in ancient times for laundry, and the ancient residences of the richest lords of the various hamlets that embellish the streets with imposing elegantly decorated buildings. For example Casa Martinoni, Casa Moscati, Casa Osei or Casa Mazzoledi. The tourist who arrives here can enjoy not only the beauties of nature and the landscape with sports and trekking routes, but also visit the ancient village and participate in the many traditional events related to the typical cuisine. First of all, the Ciuiga festival, a pork and turnip sausage, typical of the area.
