The wonderful Ortisei

Ortisei is a town of almost 5000 inhabitants in Val Gardena located at 1236 meters above sea level, in the province of Bolzano. Very famous are his wooden sculptures scattered around the town on which it is tradition for visitors to drive a nail. It is also known as Sankt Ulrich in honor of St. Ulrich of Augusta, patron saint of the town. The name Ortisei derives from the Ladin and means city of nettles. Three languages are spoken here: German, Ladin and Italian. There are numerous churches such as the Church of Sant'Ulrico and of the Epiphany of the Lord, the Church of San Giacomo, the Church of Sant'Antonio and the Church of Sant'Anna. Also worth a visit is the Museum of Val Gardena which houses many interesting archaeological finds. Taking the cable car instead you go up to the Alpe di Siusi at 2005 meters from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Dolomites in particular the Sella Group, the Sasso Lungo, the Sasso Piatto, the Catinaccio and the Sciliar. A perfect place to make wonderful excursions surrounded by nature.
