Where: montichiari
(Montichiari)
Genre: culture   useful information

A Lombard municipality in the province of Brescia, from which it is just 18 kilometers away, Montichiari is located 104 meters above sea level and has 25,000 inhabitants. It expands at the foot of the first slopes of Lake Garda in totally flat terrain. Belonging to the Serenissima since 1426, it became an important agricultural center, a lively market, roles that it also maintains today along with a strong industrial trend. Valid from an artistic point of view, its symbol is certainly the Bonoris castle, a manor built in the 19th-20th century as a private residence, it is a clear example of Lombard neo-Gothic architecture; oscillates between the world of fairy tales and the romantic one. Purchased by the municipality, after long and complex restoration works, it can now be visited again in one of the wonderful surrounding park. The eighteenth-century Duomo is noteworthy, with an internal floor in white Carrara marble, it preserves the last supper of Romanino and a majestic dome. Interesting is the 12th century Romanesque Parish Church of San Pancrazio, with three apses and 15th century frescoes. The Arms Museum and the Lechi Museum are worth a visit, rich in works of art and a well-stocked library.
