We are at an altitude of 1465, in the highest village in the Val di Fassa, in Canazei. The city hosts international sports competitions and is, for this reason, considered the ski sports capital of the Valley. In addition to the numerous sports facilities, the city still retains many traces of its history. Inside the historical center we can admire some examples; the small church of San Floriano, decorated with wood carvings, built in 1570 and located in the homonymous square. A characteristic building of the Valley is the 'Mijon', a typical residence with an adjoining bread oven that had two functions: the bread oven, in fact, and as heating, as a stove for the room; they were often built inside where there was in fact the bedroom next door. In the locality of Gries, we can still admire numerous wooden buildings, the one that stands out most is the Church of the Madonna della Neve, originally from 1600. Canazei is also one of the 18 Ladin municipalities. All the villages of the valley meet in a big party, every beginning of September. The event begins with the tapping of beer and a grand opening concert, followed by a long folk parade and continues with traditional music and food and wine stands.
