Palazzo Annoni in Briosco

Where: briosco
(Briosco)
Genre: culture

Briosco is a Lombard municipality belonging to the province of Monza and Brianza, has 6,000 inhabitants and is located 271 meters above sea level. Jewel of which one can unfortunately only guess the splendor is Palazzo Annoni, located in Capriano di Briosco. The origins are not very certain but it is plausible to date it between the late 1600s and the very early 1700s, thanks also to recent research by the historian Antonio Viganò. The architect's name is also unknown. Surely built by Giovanni Battista Annoni, in one of his writings of 1703 there is mention of a private chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Annoni was a very wealthy Milanese merchant and this villa was therefore the summer residence, a well-known collector of works of art. The last representative of the Annoni family was Count Aldo, senator of the Kingdom of Italy, who died in 1900, he left the villa to the charity congregation of Briosco-Capriano, with the obligation to make it a country hospital, in the missing places. It was done. It opened in 1903 and closed its doors in 1927. Then the slow and inexorable decline began. Oriented to the east, it has 4 floors, monumental appearance, simple but elegant facade, reminiscent of the Baroque style, especially in the balconies. There was an exedra with an Italian garden, which today is completely non-existent.
