Afragola is a Campania municipality, belonging to the metropolitan city of Naples, has 62,000 inhabitants, and is located in the plain between Naples and Caserta, in a reclamation area between the course of the Volturno, Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei and the Campania Apennines. It rises 42 meters above sea level a few kilometers from Naples. The geographical position allows it to be easily reached by any means of locomotion. The territory on which it stands is very ancient, inhabited by Aeneolithic population, then swept away by the Vesuvian eruption. From the 4th century to. C. we find the Samnites and finally the Roman dominion. The brightest period coincides with the Aragonese and Angevin dominations. In the first certain historical documents it appears as 'villa fragorum'. Symbol of Afragola is certainly the 17th-century Baroque Basilica Sanctuary of Sant'Antonio di Padova, with three naves inside, rich in marble. It preserves valuable crucifix of Umile di Petralia, considered miraculous. Noteworthy is the Palazzo di Città and the fifteenth-century castle that belonged to the Capece-Bozzuto family, today redeveloped as a school after a long period of decay and neglect.
