The Italian 'hinge': Montegabbione

Where: montegabbione
(Montegabbione)
Genre: culture   nature

Near the Val di Chiana, surrounded by vast hills, stands the small village of Montegabbione, in the province of Terni. The origin of the name can be associated with the Latin, whose meaning would be 'mountain of conquest'. Even today, Montegabbione is like a treasure chest, guardian of art, culture and antiquity; of the medieval walls, there is nothing left but a sighting tower, dating back to the 12th century, whose top can be visited; from this, in fact, it is possible to admire the vast beauty of the ancient village of Montegabbione. Among the most important religious buildings in the town, there is the church of Maria Santissima Assunta in Cielo, located in the historic center of the village, with an adjoining ancient bell tower. Walking through the particular alleys, you can get to the Church of the Madonna delle Grazie, at the foot of the Montegabbione hill. With these two churches, Montegabbion is undoubtedly the guardian of so much culture and magnificent art; absolutely recommended destinations for art history lovers, but the village itself deserves to be visited at least once by anyone.
