Canazei, bordering the municipalities of Belluno and Bolzano, is one of the 18 municipalities that are part of the cultural basin of Ladinia. The inhabited center is divided into four hamlets: Canazei, Gries, Alba and Penia. Canazei is known for the hospitality of its inhabitants but also because it is nestled among the most spectacular UNESCO peaks of the Dolomites: Sassolungo, Marmolada and Gruppo del Sella. Penia is the hamlet that has most preserved the charm of the ancient: before tourism, today the main engine of the town, Canazei was supported by agriculture and livestock. A treasure of the country's culture that is still preserved today is the dialect: Ladin. Also here it is possible to take part in the carnival, characterized by colorful masks and music. The main and most important sport of winter is skiing, in fact here there are important ski facilities and ski lifts. During the summer, however, thanks to the surrounding area, it is possible to carry out hiking and cycling activities of any size. In moments of relaxation, the visitor can enjoy the sweet welcome of the inhabitants of the town between tastings of fine wines and Alpine-style architecture. At the gastronomic level, the typical dish is a dessert made with milk, eggs, flour and sugar but the main ingredient that identifies it is raisins.
