Strolling through Pontremoli

Where: pontremoli
(Pontremoli)
Genre: culture   nature   useful information

Today we are in Pontremoli, a small town in the province of Massa, in Tuscany. Let's go immediately to the discovery of this wonderful town! Before entering the village we stop to admire the castle. Once in Pontremoli, we arrive in Piazza Duomo, inside which we visit the most important church of the Tuscan city. Also known as the Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta or Santa Maria del Popolo, the neo-Renaissance building offers wonderful frescoes by Vincenzo Micheli. In the same square we can also admire the Cacciaguerra Tower, better known as Campanone, the symbolic bell tower of the town. Continuing we walk towards the Castello del Pignaro, so called for the typical piagne (tiles in dialect). It currently houses the Museum of Lunigiana stele statues, which represent the oldest and most mysterious heritage of this land. We continue on to the historic center, where in addition to enjoying a breathtaking view, we can visit Villa Dosi, built in the seventeenth century by the rich Dosi family, who also had the so-called Casa dei Chiosi built there. We conclude our visit by passing through the Torre-Porta di Castelnuovo, which completed the defense of the city and protected the Castelnuovo bridge.
