Carbonia is a picturesque town in Sardinia. It was built in just 2 years and founded by Benito Mussolini in 1938 who, by exploiting the enormous coal deposits in the surrounding area, wanted to make Italy autonomous from an energy point of view. A place of great interest in the city is the Museo dei Paleoambienti Sulcitani Martel which boasts 52 archaeological sites surveyed. Here you can find interesting remains and fossils of extinct animals such as dinosaurs and mammoths as well as primitive men. A must for all archeology enthusiasts. The area is also considered an outdoor sports paradise. You can go hiking, trekking, horse riding and cycle tourism immersed in a natural environment of rare beauty. Also not to be missed is the Coal Museum at the Great Mine of Serbariu where you can learn a lot about the hard life of the ancient miners and the various extraction techniques of the time. A journey into the past that will be difficult to forget.
