Castelguglielmo, medieval Veneto

Where: castelguglielmo
(Castelguglielmo)
Genre: culture   fun   folklore

We are in Veneto, in a town with just over 1600 inhabitants in the province of Rovigo, we are located in Castel Guglielmo. It is crossed by the Canalbianco, we do not have certain evidences about its origins even if settlements are known as early as the Bronze Age. There are many Roman remains, especially shards, coins and mosaics. Certainly, in the Middle Ages, in the 10th century it was already a city, including its castle and the Church of San Nicolò. In 1146 it became Castel Guglielmo for the construction of the homonymous castle wanted by Guglielmo III of the Adelardi Marcheselli. This city is full of interesting churches and monuments, such as the Church of San Nicola di Bari from 1500, with its ceiling frescoed by Sebastiano Santi. Villa Pelà from the 1700s, the Palazzon, or Villa Paiola, and Casa Colognesi Rizzi. There are many events and fairs that animate the life of this town, such as the village fair which takes place in the first week of August, the Bressane Carnival, or, on the first Sunday in April, the Spring Fair and the antiques market every first Sunday of the month.
