Roccaforte is a town located in the Aspromonte Park at 971 s. Lm Which today has only 500 inhabitants. A delightful village perched on a mountain overlooking the southern slopes of the Aspromonte. A characteristic place also for its language, which derives in part from Greek, in fact in the 60s it was the object of study by glossologists, in particular on the lexicon and idioms in Greek in stronghold and a translation of the Fables of Aesop always in their Greek. Of ancient but uncertain origins, perhaps Byzantine, perhaps Greek, certainly of Hellenic traditions and language, although unfortunately the decline of their language began with the unification of Italy. Dominated in the Middle Ages by the Bova and then by the Amendolea, the fiefdom passed from hand to hand to various noble families. Excursions to Monte Scafi, the Amendolea waterfalls, a picnic in Zumbello deserve. A curious tradition, which is still handed down today, is O Cippitinnàu, an engagement rite between two young people where the boy took, in fact, a cippus, that is a trunk and placed it at the door of his beloved's house, to declare to the family of she who wanted to marry her.
