Saluzzo, a citadel to be discovered

Where: saluzzo
(Saluzzo)
Genre: culture   nature   useful information

Today we are on the furthest edge of western Piedmont, in Saluzzo. Since the Middle Ages the village has been an important pole of economic and cultural exchanges between Mediterranean and Northern Europe. The most important buildings and monuments where the city's past and its artistic and cultural prosperity find extraordinary testimonies. Among these is the Marchionale Chapel of the Church of San Giovanni. Walking through the characteristic squares and cobbled stairways, we see Castile, the imposing castle of Saluzzo, with the ancient fountain of France. Not far away is the civic tower which since 1452 overlooks the red roofs of the city. Among the architectural beauties of the historic center stands the Mercato delle Erbe and not far away is the marble monument. We can still admire some small architectural jewels such as the Church of San Bernardo, a typical example of the sober elegance of the Piedmontese baroque, the Palazzo dei Marchesi, an eighteenth-century building which, although with a difference in height, maintains elegance and harmony.
