Montepulciano is an Italian town of 13 673 inhabitants in the province of Siena, in Tuscany. Located between the Valdichiana and the Val d'Orcia, Montepulciano has Etruscan origins dating back to the 4th century BC. C. The village stands on a hill 600 meters above sea level, which allows you to admire the surrounding landscape, typically Tuscan. Montepulciano is mainly known for the production of the Vino Nobile Montepulciano DOCG, as well as for being a wonderful medieval village. The inhabited center has the characteristics of an 'S' shaped medieval village and is enclosed within walls built around the 14th century. The historic center of Montepulciano winds along a single main road (called the Corso) that reaches the Piazza Grande, where it is possible to admire the Municipal Tower and the Cathedral. Outside the walls we can find the Church of Sant'Agnese with the original Gothic portal and the facade by Viviani; the Medici Fortress of Sangallo and the fourteenth-century gate of Gracciano, renovated by Sangallo at the beginning of the 1500s. You enter the characteristic historic center right from the Porta di Gracciano.
