Villa Santa Maria is home to a people and unique roots. It is a town of about 1000 inhabitants, ready to offer a welcoming and meaningful experience to those who visit it. Popular tourist destination for mountain excursions, it stands on a rocky ridge in a panoramic position and belongs to the Valsangro Mountain Community. Some archaeological finds found in the surroundings of the town attest that the Medio Sangro area near the town was already inhabited in the Italic era. The center is famous for its many culinary chefs and the traditional existence of 'training workshops' dating back to the 13th century. The strong gastronomic tradition is linked to San Francesco Caracciolo, he was born in Villa Santa Maria in the sixteenth century and is considered the 'patron' of cooks. The city is considered by many to be the 'capital of cuisine', therefore it is very frequent to celebrate culinary-themed festivals and fairs. However, the wonders of the village are observed. The historic center offers pleasant walks along the main street and overlooks interesting buildings, such as the Palazzo di Cicco next to the Church of San Nicola, which is the symbol of the town. The church was built in 1816 and after numerous renovations, it went from a Romanesque style to the Baroque. Another noteworthy building is the Church of the Madonna in Basilica, testimony of Abruzzo's artistic history. As well as the whole village, which can be considered as a timeless work of art.
