We are located in Iglesias, in Sardinia, between history, mines and the enchanting sea. Over the centuries this city was the destination of Phoenician, Punic, Roman and Muslim sailors, who came in search of minerals, silver, quartz, copper, iron, zinc and lead. Its greatest importance, however, occurred in 1200, when the mines were reactivated by the Tuscans who introduced their workers and a wise mining legislation. A territory therefore rich in many cultures and traditions. To visit it we can start from the historic center, in Piazza Quintino Sella, with its monument, and the remains of the medieval walls. In the small square of the Town Hall instead stands the Cathedral, in Roman Gothic style of 1200 and the bell tower with the bell cast in 1337 by the great artist Andrea Pisano. This tower is the survivor of other winds that originally connected the fortification. On Via Eleonora d'Arborea we follow the slopes of the hill on which the Castle stands. To visit the Museum of mineralogy with 8,000 specimens. During the Easter period the city becomes magic with the Rites of the Holy week. In October the grape festival with dances, songs, cultural and folkloristic events. To buy the arrecarasa a joy similar to a cameo, typical of Iglesias. On the other hand, you should try the pastilles sweets, made with ground almonds wrapped in colorful papers, such as wines, Iglesias, Vermentino and Nuragus.
