In the province of Avellino, immersed in the greenery of the Partenio regional park, on the slopes of Mount Vallatrone, today we are going to visit Summonte. The village, of ancient origins, enjoys an excellent panoramic position, on the border with the old fief of Montevergine. At the entrance to the historic center, in the central square, a centuries-old lime tree welcomes us. Via Borgo winds from here, where we can admire the Church of San Nicola di Bari, built on the remains of a pre-existing religious building. The building, dating back to the end of the 16th century, is dedicated to the Madonna. Inside, the Dominican Saints are depicted in oil on wood and there is a silver bust dated 1795. An internal passage leads to the Congrega del Santissimo Rosario, dating back to 1600. We continue along via Borgo Nuovo, where we find ourselves at the entrance. monumental of the Palazzo di Cristoforo. Again, we meet the Arch of San Nicola, one of the gates of access to the ancient village where the majestic Torre Angioina is located, a surviving element of a system of fortifications. The adjacent castle now houses the Summonte civic museum.
