San Venanzo is a village in the heart of Umbria, surrounded by the wide green expanses that characterize the region. It is located in the province of Terni, near the Tiber valley, and is part of the Monte Peglia and Selva di Meana Mountain Community. It rises along an Etruscan road that connected Perugia to Orvieto. From a naturalistic point of view, the forest heritage is very large, but it is also a center of volcanological studies. The place is in fact known as 'the country of volcanoes' and there is an important Volcanological Museum where you can observe the 'venanzite', a practically unique volcanic rock, dating back to one of the volcanoes that was present in the area thousands of years ago. The monuments and places of historical interest are many, and are evidence of the ancient splendor of the city, and of the successive dominations, both here and in the various hamlets. We remember: the castle and the church of San Venanzo, Villa Faina with its beautiful gardens, the Ancient Tower, the church of Santa Caterina, and the chapel of the Madonnina dei Monti in the hamlet of Civitella dei Conti. The villa was the residence of a rich noble family, built on the remains of the ancient castle of which the Ancient tower is still visible. Every year it is home to events such as Summer Charm and the Wao Festival, as well as the Scorsone del Peglia truffle festival and the historical re-enactment of the village. The pride of the local food and wine are the cured meats, in particular the famous Sella di San Venanzo and, as already mentioned, the truffle.
