(Scansano)
Genre: culture   nature   wine and food

We are in Tuscany, in a village known all over the world for its wine, the Morellino, we are in Scansano, a small Tuscan village perched above valleys made of vines. Composed mainly of ancient buildings, with its important medieval churches and palaces. This area was permanently inhabited since the Etruscans, but its maximum splendor was in the Middle Ages. Entering the historic center on foot, you will immediately feel the scent and charm of the ancient villages. A labyrinth of narrow streets will lead you to two very interesting churches, that of San Giovanni Battista from 1200 with many eighteenth-century renovations and the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Also enchanting are the medieval Palazzo del Podestà, the Palazzo Pretorio, seat of the Archaeological Museum with Etruscan finds and the ancient hospital of Scansano, also medieval. The beautiful Castagnolo Theater dates back to 1800. Nearby, worth seeing is Castello Montepò, a fortification from the year one thousand that is located on a hill north of the village.
