(Recco)
Genre: events    culture

Recco is a town of 10,000 inhabitants, in Liguria, part of the metropolitan area of Genoa. It is located along the stream of the same name and rises in a small inlet of the Golfo Paradiso, west of the promontory of the Portofino mountain. Tourist destination of the highest quality, it attracts its visitors thanks to the wonderful sea, protected area, in the wide gulf in front. Favorite destination for summer holidays by the Genoese and Lombards. Recco has very ancient origins, first inhabited by the ancient Ligurians, it was then conquered by the Romans who called it Recina making it an important 'castro' along the Via Aurelia. In the Middle Ages it follows the history of the Republic of Genoa. During the Second World War it was completely razed to the ground and completely rebuilt around the railway bridge with a modern and rational building policy. Today it is a quality commercial and industrial hub. It inevitably suffers the attraction of nearby Genoa but manages to maintain a distinct identity. The patronal feast of 8 September is an ancient tradition that involves the seven districts that make up Recco and attracts many tourists. Dedicated to Our Lady of Suffrage, documentary traces already exist in the distant 1400 and Stendhal speaks of it in 1814, citing it among the patronal feasts. The heart of the festival are the festivals of fire and light with a strong symbolic reference to purification and rebirth. A final mention of the focaccia with IGP cheese, the flagship of Recco's gastronomy.
