Terlizi, Major Festival

Terlizzi is located in Puglia in the province of Bari and has 26109 inhabitants. Terlizzi is called the city of flowers for its important horticultural activity for the economy of the town. Its citizens are very attached to traditions and also actively participate in the folkloristic events of the country. During the Festa Maggiore it is traditional to build a highly articulated triumphal chariot. We begin to prepare a fortnight before the event takes place, which is usually held either on the first or second Sunday of August. Making the wagon is very challenging due to its size, in fact, it is 13 meters long, 7.50 meters wide and 23 meters high. Its preparation and construction requires the commitment of several people. The construction is always the same every year, it mainly consists of two parts; a line structure composed of bolted beams and axes and the covering which is mainly composed of wooden structures covered with canvas, while the lower part, the cart, is made of papier-mâché.
