Orta San Giulio is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, located on Lake Orta, in the province of Novara. Born from the union of the two municipalities of Orta Novarese and San Giulio, the latter the only island on the lake, dominated by the former episcopal seminary. The islet can be reached by boat and among the places of interest stand out: the Basilica of San Giulio, where his remains are kept, and the Abbey of the Benedictine nuns, dedicated to the preparation of the typical 'bread of San Giulio', to the restoration of ancient tapestries and fabrics. Orta is a village of alleys and picturesque alleys, characterized by the typical wrought iron balconies, an ancient local art. The main square, the heart of the city, is Piazza Mario Motta, with restaurants and commercial activities. Here there is also the ancient Palazzo della Comunità, a fundamental place for the town's period of independence. Walking up the Motta climb you will reach the Church of the Assumption, and continuing to the Natural Reserve of the Sacro Monte di Orta, with several chapels dedicated to San Francesco d'Assisi. On the shores of the lake there are several villas that were noble residences and today mainly house hotels or restaurants. Among the most famous is Villa Crespi, today the relais and restaurant of chef Cannavacciuolo.
