Set and surrounded by limestone rocks, the village of Baunei is a small pearl of the Ogliastra region in the province of Nuoro. Despite the surrounding mountains, even here you can enjoy the splendid waters of the island, in fact Baunei is one of the most popular seaside resorts. The Sardinian tradition is deeply felt, there are many occasions in which citizens organize historical re-enactments with suggestive events, customs and traditions, including culinary ones, of the past. Events linked above all to the spring and summer season when there are many visitors who in this way can discover the traditions of the place: not only food but also the uses and customs, such as the ancient Baunese wedding, with figures that recreate the typical situation of the wedding with gifts, songs and typical costumes. Very funny remains the moment of the marriage request, a bargaining that took place between the father of the groom and the bride. The village, and therefore the liveliest historical center, develops around the church of San Nicola, with a suggestive dome and white walls that stand out against the blue of the sky and the sea. The area is full of coves and inlets, among the most important are: Cala Mariolu, recognized as one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, Cala Luna, the Piscine di Venere, and Cala Goloritzè. Which mainly attract tourists, but there are many activities that can be carried out in the mountain area. Trekking, biking and many excursions to discover a wild and uncontaminated nature. Without forgetting the food and wine festivals with typical products such as wild boar, suckling pig and culurgiones.
