Where: spezzano-della-sila
(Spezzano della Sila)
Genre: culture

The hermitage of the Holy Trinity of Spezzano della Sila is the third in order of time built by San Francesco di Paola, it was opened in 1474, thanks to the economic support of the population and that of the town nobility; the chapel was completed with the construction of the convent, during the construction works Francesco was housed in Palazzo Giudicessa. His love for his brothers was great, his charity led him to respond to every daily need of man. In 2016 the convent underwent a conservative restoration, several rooms were restored and made available to the civil and religious community. The façade of the church has been completely restored, but the cross, preserved to the left of the portal, constitutes an original element, in a portico with a vaulted roof. The church has a single nave with a blanket of eighteenth-century stuccoes, with a quadrangular presbytery where the Gothic cruise is visible. On the external front of the left wall the restorations have brought to light the profiles of some windows, also found on the opposite side, as well as an ogival arch at the corner of the facade, which suggests the existence of another nave or a lateral portal. The ceiling is made of wood, made up of hexagonal panels with a square panel in the center. The choir area was certainly built by local masters, it has large caryatids and well-carved cornices. The sacristy is made up of two rooms divided by an arch, furnished with carved furniture and the date of 1626 is painted on the ceiling. The bell tower was built later, next to the cloister, the date 1584 is engraved on the largest bell. formed by arches resting on simple pillars. Throughout history, the convent has changed its intended use several times.
