The Castello di Fava in Posada

Where: posada
(Castello di Fava)
Genre: culture   folklore

Posada is a small Italian town, in the region of Sardinia, of 3056 inhabitants. It is located in the province of Nuoro and is a particularly popular destination for tourists, especially for the 'Castello della Fava' which is one of the major attractions of this locality. It dates back to the so-called 'Judicial period' and has been conquered and taken over several times, following occupations by different peoples. It is located on a small limestone hill and is thought to have existed as early as the thirteenth century. Particular is the origin of its name, which derives from a historical fact linked to the different occupations and the fact that there were different populations competing for this castle. It is said that a group of Turks who had occupied Posada wanted to take over the castle by doing everything to dissuade the peoples already settled in the fortified village. To do this, they fed a pigeon a large quantity of broad beans, the remnants of their food supplies. The bird was wounded before being released in flight, and fell into enemy territory causing concern for the wounds and for its swelling in the stomach: the enemies thought they had overestimated the resources of the castle, deciding to give up its conquest. Reaching the top is certainly not easy and does not require little effort, but the panorama you can enjoy certainly pays off all the efforts: from the Rio Posada valley to the beaches of the town of San Giovanni di Posada, it is possible to witness a real own spectacle of nature.
