Discovering San Giovanni Ilarione, between flavors and culture

Where: san-giovanni-ilarione
(San Giovanni Ilarione)
Genre: culture   nature   wine and food

San Giovanni Ilarione is a town located in the province of Verona. This place boasts the agricultural importance of the territory with the presence of orchards but above all of vineyards, whose abundant harvest allows the production of Durello, an acidulous but delicate white wine that blends happily with the renowned local chestnuts. In the upper parts of the territory the cultivation of chestnuts is still preserved and an ancient festival takes place every year around mid-October. The monuments that have adorned this town since the Middle Ages are numerous, first of all the church of Castello, which dominates the valley from the top of its cliff; below it we find the parish dedicated to Santa Caterina d'Alessandria with a large façade and neo-Gothic spiers, while inside it is possible to admire wonderful frescoes and splendid paintings. The village is rich in ancient remains of old buildings, such as the ancient Sunday house of the Balzi, a public oratory dating back to 1715, while around the hamlet of Castello we find that of Cattignano in which there is the parish dedicated to S. benedetto and finally the pretty church of San Zero dating back to the thirteenth century.
