Castel del Piano is an ancient village in the province of Grosseto, located at an altitude of 637 meters. In the heart of the village, in Piazza della Madonna we find the Church of the Opera, a Baroque-style building with a Latin cross plan. Inside is a real Nasini museum containing wonderful paintings such as the Nativity of Mary and the Mystical Marriage of Santa Caterina d'Alessendria. Always facing the main pizza we find the Palazzo del Comune and the church of the Madonna delle Grazie, which are also inside full of extraordinary paintings. In the oldest part of the village, going up you pass under the arch that supports the Clock Tower beyond which it is possible to admire the picturesque Piazzetta degli Ortaggi, equipped with a sixteenth-century Loggia. At the far end of the town we find the austere Pieve di S. Leonardo and the Church of the Santissimo Sacramento. Other attractions are Palazzo Nerucci which houses the Civic Museum of Castel del Piano, Piazza Garibaldi better known as Piazza Tonda in the center of which there is an interesting fountain. Do not forget that the village is crossed by the Montecucco Wine Road and the flavors of the Amiata so it is possible to taste the wine of this territory, the Montecucco Doc, the precious Olive Oil of Seggiano and the chestnuts of Monte Amiata IGP.
