Crema, a small artistic and pedestrian town

Where: crema
(Crema)
Genre: culture   useful information

We are in the province of Cremona, on the bank of the Serio river. Here lies the small town of Crema. Despite often living in the shadow of the great Cremona, Crema is full of beautiful noble palaces, ancient buildings and suggestive views. Entering its interior, we immediately notice that no vehicles circulate: the center is in fact all pedestrian and the only means allowed is the bicycle. Let's start by visiting Piazza Duomo, the heart of the city as well as the oldest nucleus. Its elegant value is given by its particular niches and loggias and in the center, in the Gothic style, the rose window, which emphasizes the typical geometry of the Gothic-Lombard decorative repertoire. The interior is instead characterized by imposing cylindrical columns and paintings that stand out on the exposed bricks. Another sacred of the city, together with the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie, is the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Croce, which represents one of the main spiritual centers of Crema and represents the typical example of Lombard Renaissance architecture. Still, to visit the former convent of Sant'Agostino, today the Civic Museum of Crema and Cremasco, the Venetian Walls and Torre Pretoria.
