Peligna Valley: at the Scopera di Sulmona

Where: sulmona
(Sulmona)
Genre: events    culture

Abruzzo is one of the regions of Italy capable of offering an unforgettable experience when visiting and among its most beautiful areas there is certainly the Peligna Valley which contains cities that are perfect for a trip such as Sulmona. Sulmona is known for being Ovid's hometown but also for the production of sugared almonds, which can also be found in very particular varieties in the local shops. Like many Italian cities, here too we find buildings and historical evidence of the past of this land such as the medieval aqueduct. The work was built in 1256 and consists of 21 arches, but only between the 7th and 8th arches is the plaque where it is possible to read the Leonine verses of Lombard character. The aqueduct is also visible from another important place in the city 'Piazza Maggiore', the center of city life where still today one of the traditions of Salumona is held 'the knightly joust', which takes place every year at the end of July. And obviously there is no shortage of ecclesiastical buildings among the places that deserve to be visited, it is possible to see the cathedral of San Panfilo, the abbey of Santo Spirito and the hermitage of Sant'Onofrio at 620 meters above sea level. Sulmona seems to be the perfect destination for those who love the history and traditions of our country.
