San Giovanni in Fiore, pearl of the Sila

San Giovanni in Fiore is a medium-sized town located in the province of Cosenza, in Calabria. It is considered the pearl of the Silan territory. Perched on the rock it is characterized by a strong difference in height. Inextricably linked to the figure of Gioacchino da Fiore, a Calabrian abbot with a spirit and prophetic ability. He was the founder of the Florense Abbey, center and source of extreme spirituality. The international center for Gioacchino da Fiore was also dedicated to him, where cultural works have been organized for three decades, mainly based on the dissemination of the works of Gioacchino da Fiore. Cradle of tranquility, San Giovanni in Fiore is the oldest inhabited center of the Sila, rich in traditions and ancient values, it is extremely pleasant to walk through the narrow streets of its splendid historic center that captivates with its intriguing views. Of enormous archaeological interest is the site of Iure Vetere, the place on which the first Florense foundation was built by Gioacchino da Fiore. Historical are also the Norman arch and the Cona bridge, late seventeenth century, once the only link between the town and the other villages. The Bandiera brothers passed over this bridge.
