Altomonte is a splendid medieval village in the province of Cosenza at 496 meters above sea level. Places of great interest in the town are the open-air theater, where you can attend numerous international events, and the numerous churches. Among these it is worth visiting the church of Santa Maria della Consolazione which represents a perfect example of Angevin Gothic art and which also houses a museum with important artistic works, the church of San Giacomo which is the oldest in Altomonte and the convent of San Francesco which is currently the municipal seat. Also not to be missed is the Altomonte Castle which was once the residence of Filippo Sangineto and which has now become a restaurant and the Norman Tower which is home to permanent art exhibitions. Of great interest is also the artificial lake which is an ideal place for those who want to be in contact with nature. For its beauty Altomonte is called the Spoleto of the South and is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
