Torrecuso: between vineyards and history

Where: torrecuso
(Torrecuso)
Genre: events    culture   wine and food   folklore

Torrecuso is a town in the Benevento area perched on a hill of Mount Caruso, built to defend the Grand Duchy of the South, along with many other castles used for this purpose. Over the centuries it has been dominated by various feudal lords, and each family has left evidence of its passage, making Torrecuso a center of great historical value. One of these is the church of the Santissima Annunziata, built at the same time as the church of the Eremo Liberatore, used as a deposit for the hospital attached to the church. Also of interest is the Church of Sant'Erasmo which is the patron saint of the town, and which houses a painting dedicated to San Filippo Neri. Dominant over the whole village is the Caracciolo-Cito palace, or the ancient three-towered castle. The castle was restored in the eighteenth century by the noble Cito family, and today houses a wing of the municipality, the school of taste and the food and wine chain of Sannio, as well as the Wine Museum. Born a few years ago, it houses several works dedicated to wine, a typical product of the area. Torrecuso produces Aglianico and Falanghina, mainly, a great resource of the area, in about 22 wineries scattered throughout the territory. One of the most heartfelt events is Vinestate, with show cooking and tastings, without forgetting the typical Carnival or summer parties.
