Manciano, village of Saturnia

Where: manciano
(Manciano)
Genre: culture   nature   folklore

That of Saturnia, is an area included within the province of Grosseto, in Tuscany, and is in fact located in the heart of the hilly hinterland of the Maremma Grossetana. It is said that this place was inhabited since the Bronze Age, with the settlement of some Etruscan peoples, but there are conflicting opinions on the origin of those who first settled this territory. This locality includes several municipalities, including Manciano, a village of 7,239 inhabitants which is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy. Among its monuments, the Rocca Aldobrandesca undoubtedly occupies a prominent place, located in the historic center and dating back to the twelfth century. The building is of medieval origin and its position allowed the town that hosts it, Manciano, to be defined 'Spy of the Maremma'. Among the other attractions there are mainly religious buildings, churches, such as that of San Giorgio and that of San Leonardo, but also chapels, important palaces, such as Palazzo Aldi, and municipal villas. Visiting the town of Manciano can be a very interesting experience, as there is a high concentration of places of culture in an apparently small and restricted area.
