(Monza)
Genre: culture   nature

The Monza Park is one of the major historical parks in Europe and is the largest enclosed by walls, it currently constitutes a complex of particular landscape, architectural and historical value. The park was commissioned by Eugenio di Beauharnais as a completion of the royal villa built previously, the works began in 1806 and ended in 1808 thanks to Luigi Canonica and Luigi Villoresi. The wall that surrounds the park was erected by the Canonica in 1808 with a double task: that of delimiting the boundaries of the areas used by the Villa Reale and that of security not only for Eugene of Beauharnais but also for those who, regardless of the danger, would have entered the property; in fact, the park was born mainly as a personal hunting lodge only afterwards do we think about military and defensive reasons. The park was opened to the public in 1818 with the settlement of Ranieri Giuseppe of Habsburg-Lorraine. Inside the park, in addition to majestic buildings, there are many plant and animal species. In fact, when the park stopped being a hunting reserve, the animal species settled peacefully in this area, today it boasts a large number of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. In great presents are the red squirrel, the hare, the dormouse, the nuthatch and the emerald frog. The flora of the park boasts numerous native and exotic species such as: the plane tree, the cherry tree, the oak, the hawthorn, the linden and the dogwood. Inside the park there are many avenues and perspective telescopes. Since 1922 it has housed the Monza national racetrack, one of the most important motor racing circuits in the world.
