Ponza is the main island of the Ponza archipelago which is located off the coast of the Lazio region. Ponza is geographically in the province of Latina, and is part of the archdiocese of Gaeta. The archipelago is completed with some smaller islands: Palmarola, Gavi and Zannone. It is a place much appreciated by tourists for the splendid sea and the hilly area that offers wonderful views and beautiful coves. The place has a very strong tourist vocation and the port is the main area for clubs, restaurants and other places for entertainment. The white buildings stand out in contrast with the sea, giving a glance that almost recalls Greece. Among the most beautiful natural areas we mention: Frontone Beach, Chiaia di Luna Beach, Cala Fonte and Pilato's Caves. The island is also known for the presence of many archaeological sites and for the many finds of ancient buildings in the sea. We remember among the many: three Roman villas located in the locality of Santa Maria, Sant'Antonio and near the promontory of Punta della Madonna; the necropolis and Roman cisterns, the Roman aqueduct and the Mitreo, located in the historic center of Ponza.
