Taormina is one of the most famous Messina towns in Italy and in the world. It is famous not only for the sea but for the many monuments and places of historical interest. It was also an important stop on the Grand Tour. Taormina is very small but full of charm. The narrow and colorful streets, the medieval buildings and the views of the sea and the beautiful promontory are the signature of this wonderful village. The main street is called Re Umberto Primo, and runs from Porta Messina to Porta Catania. The places of greatest interest are: - the church of San Pancrazio; - the church of Santa Caterina; - the Cathedral of San Nicola, in the main square; - the ancient theater, also known as the Greek theater, still in use today, between Etna and the Ionian Sea, where the David di Donatello award ceremony is held every year; - Palazzo Ciampoli; - the Villa Trevelyan Cacciola (now the seat of the public municipal villa); With the cable car you can reach Isola Bella, a small area connected by a strip of land to Sicily, home to an important nature reserve. Last stop the town of Castelmola located above Taormina, in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy. A typically tourist vocation, the village offers beautiful views, historical remains such as those of the Norman castle, and breathtaking nature. Do not forget a specialty of the village: almond wine.
