The Castle of Pagazzano

Where: pagazzano
(Pagazzano)
Genre: culture   useful information

The Pagazzano castle is a castle located in the city of Pagazzano in the province of Bergamo. The current structure dates back to the 14th century and is located outside the town along the road to Treviglio. The castle was inhabited in 1272 by the Torriani, subsequently passed to the Visconti after a dispute related to the castle of Brignano, to which it seems it was linked by an underground passage. Over the centuries the castle has hosted numerous illustrious personalities including Francesco Petrarca. It was thanks to this event that during the mid-1300s the castle was saved from the destruction of the fortresses ordered by Bernabò Visconti. A deep pit filled with water surrounds the castle, the drawbridge allows entry to the castle and is maneuvered by means of iron chains fixed to the end of two massive bolts. The moat and the drawbridge are the main feature of the castle. The internal structure is built in terracotta and unfortunately there are no decorated halls and frescoes inside which characterize it, what is most fascinating is the majestic and rudimentary aspect. The castle can be visited by appointment or on the first and third Sunday of the month from 09: 30 to 12: 30 and from 14: 00 to 18: 30. The cost of the complete visit from 14 to 25 years is € 5.00 per person. and € 7.00 from 25 to 75 years.
