Fiumicino: not just the airport

Where: fiumicino
(Fiumicino)
Genre: culture

Fiumicino is a town of 76,000 inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Rome. The country is famous above all for its airport which represents a reference point for those who want to visit the Eternal City. Not everyone knows, however, that the town itself has many interesting attractions for tourists. For example, those who want to find some peace from city stress can take a nice excursion to the Oasis of Porto or that of Macchiagrande. Of great historical value are the Archaeological Area of the Port of Trajan and the Museum of Roman Ships where there are important remains of boats dating back to the imperial period. Also suggestive is the medieval village of Episcopio di Porto where the bishops resided in ancient times. A walk along the Lungotevere is recommended as well as a visit to the splendid city beaches. There are numerous excellent restaurants in which to eat dishes of the Roman culinary tradition. Finally, you cannot miss a bit of relaxation in the local spas.
