The natural and archaeological wonders of Sant'Antioco

(Isola di Sant'Antioco)
Genre: culture   nature   fun

Sant'Antioco is the main town of the homonymous island, in the south-west of Sardinia. The inhabited center itself is characteristic, with a wonderful promenade between tourist and fishing boats; as if to hybridize these two souls, there are numerous companies dedicated to fishing-tourism that can thus involve visitors with the experience of trying the excellent local fish. The town is home to numerous museum structures: the Museo del Bisso (a unique exhibition dedicated to the presentation of this incredible material), the 'Su Magasinu de su Binu' ethnographic museum (dedicated to the island's wine traditions), the MuMa Museum (dedicated to art of fishing and living at sea) and finally the “Ferruccio Barreca” Municipal Archaeological Museum, which houses numerous testimonies from the Nuragic, Pre-Nuragic, Phoenician and Roman ages. Archeology is an important aspect of the island, as this is dotted with dozens of sites: ranging from the Roman catacombs to the tomb of the giants of 'Su Niu 'e su Crobu', passing through the nuragic complex of 'Grutti' e Waterfall'. The island obviously also offers splendid coasts and coves, such as the Arco dei Baci of 'Is Praneddas' or the marine bay of Cala Sapone.
