(Domus de Maria)
Genre: events    nature   folklore   useful information

Today we are going to visit Domus de Maria, in the south of Sardinia. Founded in 1700, it actually hides a much older history with its archaeological heritage and the breathtaking landscape makes our stay a humic experience. Domus de Maria is a naturalistic union of disarming beauty; inserted in the natural park of Gutturu Mannu, which boasts one of the largest forests in the Mediterranean and a protected wildlife oasis, which can be reached and visited along one of the many paths: ideal for trekking enthusiasts. The city, however, wanted to highlight all the historical-cultural and archaeological parts: let's visit the Torre di Chia, built by the Crown of Spain to counter the invasions of the barbarians, and the necropolis of Bithia, located in the retro-dunal areas of the main city beach: Sa Colonia. Some of the objects found in the excavations of the necropolis are kept inside the old town hall and in the main museum of the city. The beauties of the territory, the history, the gastronomy and the religious events make this small town even more joyful and colorful. In this regard, one of the most famous and heartfelt events by the population is the Feast of the Holy Spirit, which falls on the day of Pentecost; a riot of prayer, folklore and shows further color Domus de Maria.
