The running of the geese, in Lacchiarella

Today we are in Lacchiarella, a small town in the province of Milan. We are here to attend a peculiar festival: the Palio di Lacchiarella, which ends with the suggestive run of the geese. The Palio attracts tens of thousands of spectators and enthusiasts from all over Lombardy. The geese, lovingly bred and trained by their breeders, face an exciting race stimulated by the verbal call and attachment of their breeders. These highly intelligent animals manage to amaze even the most critical and skeptical. This tradition is so famous and ancient that a famous English newspaper recently dedicated an article to the running of the latter. The festival takes place in the last days of September. We can also taste some of the typical dishes, such as salamele, some homemade cakes, various cold cuts and cheeses and various goose specialties; all accompanied by the typical beer and doc wine. Finally we can admire, among the stalls, the objects on display, entirely handmade.
