Dovadola: the city of truffles in the heart of Romagna

Where: dovadola
(Dovadola)
Genre: culture   useful information

Dovadola is a town in the province of Forlì Cesena, known for its truffle festival, pewter processing and fortress. The Church of Sant'Andrea is one of the most important places of worship, it is located on a hill beyond the Montone river and inside it preserves the remains of the venerable Dovadolese Benedetta Bianchi Porro. Much better known, however, is the Hermitage of Montepaolo, an ancient monastery that hosted St. Anthony of Padua in which a miraculous healing attributed to the saint took place, which contributed to keeping the cult for the saint alive. The city is in fact one of the stages of the Way of St. Anthony, a path that traces the life and works of the saint starting from the Basilica of Padua to the Sanctuary of La Verna. The path to get to the hermitage is flanked by a series of mosaics depicting the life of Saint Anthony. Another place of interest is the Rocca dei Conti Guidi, dating back to the twelfth century, is of medieval style, built for defensive purposes and then also became the family home. The handicraft is very widespread, even for the production of musical instruments such as violins.
