Recommended for families, the Parco delle Cascate is located near the medieval village, which has been known since 910 AD. C. According to a document of the time, King Berengario I granted Berteto the lands, rich in waterways and mills. Before entering the park, a visit to the village is proposed, where the intertwining of streets touches the houses built with ashlars and slabs of red scale, a local stone. Here on the first Sunday of October, the farmers' market takes place where, among the artisan stalls, you can taste typical dishes and stock up on chestnuts, walnuts, potatoes, cheeses and local butter. The park is well structured and there are three different itineraries that cross it. With information panels, which can also be read by children, the local fauna and flora species are known, whose biodiversity the institution protects. The streets wind around the promontory, crossing water jumps several times with dry bridges and fords and visiting the caves that were inhabited 100,000 years ago. In the cavities there are visible signs and engravings of the nomadic hunter-gatherers and of the Neolithic Sapiens who began the funeral rites there. Operators and archaeologists organize Prehistoric Nights for children aged 6 to 11, in which they are accompanied in search of flints, streams, edible plants, prehistoric life, sleeping on skins and eating prehistoric dinner. Event not to be missed!
