Genre: culture   nature   wine and food   folklore

Founded by the Basilian monks, the town is located in the isthmus of Catanzaro, on a hill from which you can see the Gulf of Squillace and that of Sant'Eufemia. Destroyed in the earthquake of 1783, the inhabitants, loving it, rebuilt it with local tuffs. Very characteristic is the Donnafiori fountain with six decorated spouts and the four wash-tubs, symbol of the village. The manufactories are aimed at productive activity in the strict and broadest sense, where the creations are at the same time artistic. In fact, we can visit the old olive washhouse where the oil was extracted from the pomace or the looms that spin the silk, obtained from the cocoons of the silkworms, clinging to the leaves of the mulberry tree. Peasant but refined corners, extremely evolved and handed over to tradition by female hands, who work fine fabrics and pass them on. We also visit the Suspended Wood, where you can walk among ancient trees and the house of Cefaly who founded a school of painting called Cortalese here, in line with Neapolitan realism and Tuscan Macchiaiolo.
