Palmenti, literature, murals: the things to discover in Sant'Agata del Bianco

Where: sant-agata-del-bianco
(Sant'Agata del Bianco)
Genre: culture

Sant'Agata del Bianco is a small town in Locride which is located in the Aspromonte Park, and which is trying to combat depopulation by focusing above all on the tourism map. The center of the town has been enhanced with the creation of murals and the so-called 'pint doors'. The latter are a tribute to one of the most illustrious characters of Sant'Agata, Saverio Strati. The writer was the author of many successful novels, first of all 'The Wild of Santavenere' which earned him the Campiello prize. Not only is the Stratificazioni literary festival dedicated to Strati, but also the drawings made on the doors of the houses that lead to his home, which today is a museum dedicated to his memory, are inspired by his writings. The city is also embellished by the works of Antonio Scarfone, an artisan who works iron and has collected old objects in his museum of lost things. In the surroundings of the town you can finally admire the suggestive millstones, once used for wine. There are about 700 of them ranging from the Hellenic to the Byzantine era.
