The adhesion of Santa Margherita del Belice to the Bella Sicilia circuit

Where: santa-margherita-di-belice
(Santa Margherita del Belice)
Genre: culture

The entrance of Santa Margherita del Belice into the Bella Sicilia tourist circuit marked a cultural spurt for the circuit itself. This town in the province of Agrigento is sadly famous for many because of the devastation brought about by the earthquake that struck the Belice in 1968, but the citizens are proud of it. Santa Margherita was founded in the second half of the sixteenth century by Antonio Corbera, who was related to Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, author of the famous novel Il Gattopardo. In Santa Margherita there is the palace of the prince of Salina, inside which there are many relics related to the film that was based on that book. Among other things, there is also an original manuscript. Every year the Tomasi di Lampedusa Literary Prize is held here, which has attracted writers, directors, actors and other artists of high artistic stature to the city. At the same time, the country is famous for its wine production, for the production of prickly pear and oil.
