Another point of view on the stacks of Capri

(Isola di Capri)
Genre:

One of the most loved views of Capri are its beloved stacks, which in reality are not exclusive to this island but which certainly characterize it enormously. Not many know how these rock giants that rise from the sea were formed. In fact, once they were part of the coast itself, and were part of a promontory that jutted into the waters in front of the island. It was then the waves, with their incessant motion, that eroded much of the coast formed in remote times, between the Middle Jurassic and the Lower Cretaceous (between 170 million and 100 years ago). The erosion of the cliff has therefore given rise to large boulders that now rise on the surface of the sea, but which over time will continue to deteriorate more and more. In fact, the abrasion process certainly does not stop. What today are natural arches under which tourists pass by boat will one day open, separating what is now a single stack, generating two. The name faraglione derives from the Greek word pharos, which means lighthouse, since sighting fires were lit on these rocky spurs to prevent boats from colliding with them.
