Where: castrovillari
(Castello e centro storico di Castrovillari )
Genre: culture   nature

Castrovillari is a wonderful village in the province of Cosenza, in Calabria. In the video we can admire the main symbol of this town that is the Aragonese Castle. The important late medieval complex was built at the behest of Ferdinand of Aragon. The fortress is made up of a central body with a trapezoidal shape, with four cylindrical towers of different sizes, located at the corners of the structure, each oriented towards a cardinal point and joined by a uniform curtain wall, with small openings. On the entrance portal we still find the coat of arms that depicts the symbol of the Aragonese dynasty together with the year of construction, once crossed the threshold there is a large courtyard where we find the entrances for access to the various rooms of the Towers . The whole defensive complex is decorated with a long ring of stones under which the towers are inclined like a shoe. The building was later used as a prison. The historic center of the town is characterized by narrow alleys and glimpses that frame this splendid town. Among the attractions in the center we find Palazzo Cappelli, the bishopric, the Giudecca district, the Archaeological museum and the Franciscan Protoconvento.
