War archeology: the bunker of Fiumicino

Where: fiumicino
(Fiumicino)
Genre:

After almost eighty years, an underground building dating back to the Second World War was rediscovered in Fiumicino. It is a bunker that was built by Italian soldiers when allied landings along the coast were feared. The bunker was hidden by scrub and brambles on a private field. Only after a thorough cleaning job, however, was it able to come back to light, and today it can be visited on request. The structure has some steps and leads to an underground room where the soldiers took shelter. It is assumed that he was equipped with an anti-tank gun, which could open fire on enemy tanks. From the position where two soldiers could stay, one sheltered and the other instead of a lookout, it was possible to look up to the coast. Once recovered, the bunker was enhanced through school trips, with children visiting this place to see for themselves where history was made. The intent is to organize events also with adults.
